Help needed on solving constant problems with my 6.0

I have a 2006 f 250 cc lb fx4 with 85ishk on the clock. I have had issues with this truck ever since I bought it last year. I have had the intake cooked out due to excessive soot, the oil cooler, egrs, and injectors replaced at various times. The main issues that I have been dealing with is a sluggish motor until 1800rpm with light black sooty smoke then the engine comes alive and runs. I also have a rough starting issue when it is cold and it will not shift properly for a while. The dealership replaces a few injectors and does a few things when i take it in but I am always right back where I started in a few months time. What do I need to do to fix this issue?

Sounds to me like you have multiple issues going on. Have you checked FICM voltage? Oil and filter brand and change intervals? What kind of driving style do you have and what do you use the truck for?

I have not had the ficm checked recently but it was replaced last year. It was one of the first problems I had to have fixed. Oil and filters are all done it the dealer. As for driving style....I tow nearly everyday but I do not have a heavy foot but I do run it hard when I have to.

How much idling?
Do you use Bio or a Bio-blend?
Do you use fuel additives?
Have you ever checked fuel pressure?
Has the turbo ever been cleaned?
Even though the oil changes are done at the dealership, I would verify what oil is used there. In fact, I would personally recommend changing to 5W40 (I seriously doubt they would be using this) even if you have to do the changes yourself.

When the FICM was replaced, did you load test the batteries at the same time? Did you have the alternator checked?

No Bio just regular diesel
No additives on a regular schedule. I have run them in the past.
Fuel pressure checked ok
turbo cleaned late last year

Don't mean to be rude, but what do you mean the fuel pressure checked OK - what pressure and under what operating conditions was it tested?

I also added a few things (edited) on my first post - regarding oil and FICM.

Also - you did not address the idling question.

It wasn't taken to be rude. When I spoke to the tech at the dealer yesterday we were talking about injectors and he said the fuel pressure was fine when he checked it. So other than that it is all I have to go on.
As for idling, nothing more than a few mins here or there or while hooking up a trailer or waiting on the truck to warm so it will shift when i pull out into traffic in the am.
The oil is a 15w40 motorcraft and motorcraft filter. The alt was replaced last feb along with the batteries. It left me stranded on the side of the road....was not a fun night.

Last questions (from me anyway) -

Do you have any performance mods (aftermarket air filter, tuner, etc).

I would certainly assume that in all these visits to the dealership, that they would have installed the latest processor flashes. Do you know when that was? Also - check back on when the EGR valve was last replaced.

Other than no muffler the truck is stock. last time egr was replaced june 2010 on 66k, latest flash 2/7 of this year but they aren't sure because it is not logged onto the oasis. I know that I have talked about this with them before.

Its not always the case but I've heard alot of times when one injector fails the others are on the way out as well. Since this is your second time replacing injectors, you might just want to go ahead and replace all of them at once so you dont keep having to pay for the labor

I would seriously consider getting an electronic gauge package and adding the fuel pressure and EGT instruments. You have had enough problems, that may or may-not be over when you change the two injectors that are now found to be bad.

There has to be a reason for the bad injectors ....... and "dribbling in the repairs" can create other issues IMO. I personally believe our 6.0L injectors are reasonably reliable - if oil and fuel systems are kept in good order.

Maybe the fuel pressure really isn't OK, maybe it was all related to the alt/battery/FICM issues earlier, or maybe there is still an underlying issue (like maybe you have low HPO pressures from a leak somewhere).

Also, I would switch to 5W40 oil and install the high-idle mod.

a little interisting info. failed egr cooler are knowen to kill injectors, along with running low on fuel, low fuel pressure.. ect ect.

next its a diesel this engine comes alive at 1800rpm. find someone local with a tuner youll see what Im talking about.

fords programing pulls fuel till 5psi to reduce soot.

anything else?

gutnther you will never get rid of the lag. its boost lag. just not gonna happen.
The best you may really hope for is by possible going to a custom ficm tune. The few I have drive seemed to have less lag.
what color smoke. black, blue or white? if its black then its unburnt fuel. to some extent that maybe normal too.
