Could you explain some more regarding injectors being killed by a failed EGR cooler?

sure mark.... your just overthinking....

what happens is the coolant will enter the main oil supply for the engine via one of 3 ways.
1) drain past the rings after sitting
2) recondense from the steam form in the oil pan.
3) stick to the wall of the cyclinder and get wiped down by the oil ring.

when this happens we will have a high level of gylcol and whater mixed in with the oil. the mix is then picked back up by the lp pump and sent to the high side system were its pump threw the injectors and they dont tend to like that much.

Thank you cheezit!

Do you know what concentration of glycol in the oil begins to be damaging (for those of us doing regular oil analysis)? I assume it is low ......

sorry I dont. I can tell you the one I suspect as the cause have injector failers shortly after egr cooler fails with oil and water/coolant in the pan

So cheezit what your saying is basically you change the oil right away after an EGR cooler failure?? Or is it too late to matter...

ANY EGR/oil cooler replacement mandates changing the oil and filter and refilling with new coolant (at least for me it does anyway).

just throwing this out there about your truck having low power. have you checked exhaust back pressure sensor/ and tube to sensor. We run 11 econolines with 6.0L and along with my personal truck and they all act low on power and shift really rough when the sensor and/or sensor tube is plugged. im not 100% sure (somewhere around 14psi i think) on the spec but it should drop psi fast when u let off the throttle and not have much back pressure because you dont have a muffler.

The best you may really hope for is by possible going to a custom ficm tune. The few I have drive seemed to have less lag.
what color smoke. black, blue or white? if its black then its unburnt fuel. to some extent that maybe normal too.
It's black smoke so it is unburnt fuel. Surely it can't be normal to have this much turbo lag and smoke like this....

Was your EGR valve replaced or was it cleaned. Your symptom sounds like my truck when the EGR valve wasn't operating properly before it eventually failed. Lacked low end power, very sluggish on take off, and blew out black smoke was related to my EGR valve.

After a year with the new EGR valve, my truck experienced the same problem again recently, but I know it just a matter of time and I'll need to replace it again. This is with the latest flash and the new designed EGR valve.

Good luck....
