I noticed while working on my exhaust that the driver's side inner fender, my intake, and various other parts are getting a nice coating of fluid on them. The leak appears to be coming from the fitting near the top of the pump. Do I just need to put the squeeze on that fitting, or is there an o-ring or something that will need to be replaced?
in my experience is more of a just buying a whole new power steering line. 300$ is what i paid at carquest. when i got my red truck that same fitting was leaking, got to the point were the acutal line came out of the fitting! makes a NICE mess..
I just had to do my pressure PS hose. I paid $26.00 at Advanced for a life time warranty. You access the lower fitting through the the fender wall (behind the left front tire) where the heavy rubber is. I didn't remove my tire but if I were to do it over again I would take the tire off. Also make sure you do the return hose at the same time, my return hose is leaking & I get to fool around with the PS again!!!! Getting the fitting to line up with the steering can really try your sense of humor, but if ya hold your mouth just right it will go together.
Chase, I did the PS hose also and yes, Steve's post was a typo. There is a little white plastic O ring that goes in there. B Big is right, the lower fitting will try your patience! Horsing down on the nut didn't seem to help mine. Steve is right, makes a heck of a mess when it lets go.
I had the same problem.. It came from the fitting going into the top of the pump. I believe it is the pressure line. The fitting going into the pump was a snap fitting with an interior snap ring. The snap ring had worn out. Now I called Ford and they said they didn't just make the snap ring I would have to get the whole hose assembly. I looked down in there and didn't really want to have to take that whole hose out. So I hunted around for some snap rings and found an interior ring that would fit the "quick disconnect" as ford called it. I replaced just the snap ring for a total of $.50
Hope this helps

Reason: More specific
Here is the fitting that was bad on mine... I assume same for yours?
If so then there is a O-Ring and a snap ring in there that would be bad. Be willing to bet its the little brass snap ring worn out.
Yep that's the one. You don't happen to recall the size of the snap ring do you? Did you just use a hardware store snap ring or did you find another brass one some place?
I don't remember the size unfortunately.... I used a hardware store ring... I had to grind just a smidge off it for it to fit. That was 6 months ago and its still working just fine.

I will try to see if I can find the size for ya.
Thanks. I suppose I could just go buy a bunch of different ones. Once I have it apart I'm without a decent rig until I get it back together. Heaven forbid I have to drive a Chevy to fetch parts for my Ford

Chase, the leak also could be come from the o-rings in the fitting of the pressure hose, here is a pic ("exploded") for the inside o-ring no reemplazable and the outside o-ring (special white teflon o-ring)

That's possible too, I can see fluid around the outside of the fitting and it's spraying everywhere.
Ya Chase, before mine let go I had oil film over my vacuum pump, IC pipe and all around that area. There was a thread awhile back about someone getting a new HP hose and that teflon ring wasn't encluded. You need it, I got mine from AutoZone and it had one.
BTW, mine doesnt had the little brass snap ring, and it doesnt right now, and not leaks since I changed the fittings.
Glenn, does yours had that brass piece?
