I pulled all my glow plugs this afternoon and luckily they were all Berus. I don't know how old or how many miles are on them. I would like some opinions on that. I also noticed that the plastic connectors broke or crumbled when I removed them from the plug leads. I am thinking of buying and keeping a glow plug harness on hand. There is nothing wrong with the metal connectors, though.
I will post pictures of one plug from the front driver's side. They are all in the same condition. I am also going to make a separate thread on my IP. I want to know if how old it is and if I should replace it. I get about 16.28 MPG on the highway.
natural swelling from lots and lots of heat cycles. just grab a new set. theres a thread around here that a guy found where you can buy the bullet connectors to make your own harness for a lot less. and as far as the ip, thats up to you. still fair mpg. what engine, tranny and gears do you have? that will let us know if its on the higher side or lower side of your mpg range

Yeah, I thought they were original. I am just glad I didn't find Autolites in there. I have never had a problem starting this truck so these will make an excellent backup set.
Check out my IP post. I included more info than is most likely necessary but it's all good stuff. I'll have to pickup a new set of Berus before my trip. At least I can rest assured that they won't swell on me.
There's a few things I would like to point out for you man.
If you end up replacing the plugs, ONLY BUY DZ9 plugs, autolites tend to over swell, causing you to have to remove the head for safe removal.
I've heard the same for other brands.
And the way to check them, is with a test light, I can do a pic by pic process for you today if you would like, I think I have a few dead plugs, so I won't be going outta my way.
Anybody ever tried to remove overswelled gp's by loosening them getting them to stick in the hole then fire up the truck and let the compression do the rest??? I have a few that need changed that are over swelled Im thinking about doin that. Let it be noted that I have a spare freshly rebuilt engine sitting on a stand if it turns into a catistrophic failure.
I wouldn't advise it Brandon, I just see threads being torn up, or worse, regardless of having another ready-to-install IDI.
These motors have a 21.5:1 Compression, that's a lot of pressure in a slightly larger than 4" bore, with very little escape, you could be blowing a good chunk outta the head with that.
While Fire seeks a fuel source, Pressure seeks a way out, which ever way possible.

I have been wondering about what would happen if you did that for a long time. I never mentioned it but I would like to know if that is a viable way to get the stuck plug out. I guess you have to think about the suction forces as well.
