I have been seeing a little bit of fuel in the valley over the last few weeks. I rebuilt the fuel bowl a few weeks ago along with replacing the hoses from the pump to the fuel bowl. So I know that is not leaking and there no fuel under that. So my guess is it would be coming from the weep hole on starts up because it not enough to make it run down the back of the engine and leave spots on the ground.
You can get these pumps at most part stores. sort of a pain to change, but not bad enough to pay a shop to do it. i just winged it on my first one.
there are some threads about it here. i'll see if i can find the links
Its called a lift pump. basically its a mechanical fuel pump. It not a hard job just take your time. Hardest part is geting the nut off the back of the pump under the turbo pedistol. while you have it apart its a good time to clean your fpr too.

So now the questions.
What is the proper name of this pump?
Lift pump like Smash said
How hard is it to change?
How good are you with your tools? How high is up? You're gonna need a couple of hours. I used an 1 1/4" socket (I think that's the banjo bolt) a good universal, camera unless you have one of those photogenic mind things, and some patients. You are going to get dirty! You going to get kinda personal with your truck too.
Can I get it at a auto parts or dealer only?
Yup you can get them at the stealership you're gonna pay dearly for it too. Go to a decent part house, Napa, O'riely's, something like that PLEASE don't go to AZ. It may come with a lifetime warranty, you're gonna replace it for the life of your truck. Get my point. You can do it pick you up some fuel line while your there. Get the viton - vitron whatever its called. That way if you do get bio fuel it doesn't break down the rubber lines....ask me sometime how I know.
Any other info would be great!
When you remove the old pump lift it strait up and DO NOT drop the tappet that is in the bottom of the pump. That's bad cuz then you might drop it into the engine. Good luck let us know how it turns out.
Thanks, Clean 97
Ok Fpr and where is it located and how would one clean it right?
oops missed that question. It's on the right side of the fuel bowl. When you have the fuel bowl out take the two or three 10mm bolts out and very carefully remove it from the fuel filter canister. Don't loose the screens in there either.
heres a link for a regular fuelpump https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ml#post7900928
heres some reading for a cali. fuel pump https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/614050-fuel-leak.htm, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...placement.html
hopefully you don't have a cali. model, but it can be done without removing the turbo.
also i was able to get the banjo bolt off with an unmodified wrench. once it breaks free it unscrewed real easy. i was also able to reuse my washers.retorqueing the bolt was a litlle more challinging though. i just got it tight.
If you want more reading on this job just type in fuel pump replacement in the search window at the main forum
p.s. you can get a fuel pump for approx. $100.00 at the parts store, just ask for a fuel pump(they may call it a fuel lift pump) but as it is the only one in our truck they will know what your talking about.
GOOD LUCK
Ok, I cleaned that when O rebuilt the fuel bowl, Think it needs to be cleaned again aready? It been a long day and after I asked what a FPR was it clicked in my head! Sorry!

I'm a machanic so I'm good with tools and do all my own work on the truck. I guess maybe 2 weekends from now I will see how fun this peject can be. Doesn't look that bad to bemove but, I'll take ur word for a few hour job.
its not bad just time consuming. If you have one of those creepers thats for trucks that you can lay on over the engine and not be on the engine....well I guess you're like a step above me. I use a 2x12 with a little foot to not sit on the radiator and prop it on the core support and the alternator. I'm a kinda biggish guy so it's better than nothing but I have short arms and can't reach the back of the engine easily so that is why I lay down across the engine when I have to work on mine. Later I'm going to bed.
Ordered a bosh replacement pump today from advance auto. Cost me 146.00. I will be replacing one of these up coming weekends.
When you pull out the fuel cannister did you check the bottom of it for rotted there?, because there are some tiny pinholes (spl?) there that can leak because of the junk collected inside.
