I was on my way home from work Friday and had the radio loud, but thought i felt it feel like the IWEs were trying to engage. So i turned the radio down and tried to get it to replicate but couldnt. So today i got the trusty vacuum guage out and started checking everything. Everything checked out fine but found a small leak.
When i replaced the check valves, i used a 3 way valve cause i couldnt find a straight through on at the parts store, so i just used a plug cap to plug off the third port on the valve. Last year i heard the IWEs and checked the one check valve and found that the plug cap had dry rotted and wasnt plugging, so i replaced it with a short chunk of hose with a screw in the one end. That fixed it. Well today i checked them again, and the second check valve behind the battery and, yep, the plug cap had dry rotted on that one and was leaking, so i fixed that one the same way i fixed the other one and now good to go. Whew! I really didnt want to pull stuff apart again.
Actually, it just hit me as i was writing this that i didnt check the check valves when i had them out, so i just now ran out and pulled them off again, and low and behold the check valve that had the leaky cap plug was shot, good thing i had another one sitting on my shelf. Now i should be good to go! hahaha!
That'll teach you to leave old "three ways" on! Good catch. My truck's been fine since you helped me fix it a year ago. I'll never forget the first time I heard that left front buzzing...I thought the tranny had blown or something!
I cant find straight through check valves at the parts stores around me. Plus i really didnt think that the plug caps would dry rott out like that so fast. Oh well
It is kind of wierd, the plain straight through check valves are often not on the rack. I could only find one when I started my trouble shooting and repair. I seldom see them in stock. I didn't use the one I got, but put it in the glove box...
