bypassing IWE

If your IWE solenoid went bad and was trying to lock one side in could a person just pull the vacuum lines off the IWE's to lock them both in and drive it that way until you can get it fixed? Also,I was wondering if a person could disconnect the power to the IWE solenoid and or pull the vacuum hoses off the IWE's and cap the holes so the front end would be locked in all the time? I know it might cause some more wear down the road, but people did it all the time with the older systems with manual hubs and never had any trouble.
