I have a 2011 Super Duty with the power telescopic mirrors. While I was washing my truck today, I noticed a small access panel on the bottom of the passenger side mirror. There is not one on the driver mirror. I removed the piece and found a connector inside with a cover on it. What is this for? Is there an option on these mirrors that I don't have? If so, what is the option?
Oh, you are talking about the little inspection panel on the bottom of the passenger side mirror! When you remove it, you will find the connector, Ford PN# CONN19684-AF. This is the main harness to supply the power source for the time circuits, and should have a yellow wire with a black tracer (hot) and a brown wire with a green tracer (ground) to connect the vehicle to the flux capacitor- which, as we all know, is what makes time travel possible.
Seriously, I have no idea. Why don't you send them to me for a visual inspection. I believe I can figure it out, and if I accidentally mess them up then I will send you a pair of pre-2008 mirrors in their replacement.
There is no puddle lamp option and the outside temp sensor is behind the grille. I like the flux capacitor theory!
2011 Lariat, sensor under right side mirror(Confirmed with a heat gun) Putting the sensor near anything that gets hot wouldn't make sense, like a radiator.

If it's for the outside temp-that's cool. I have always seen them behind the grille. I work for a Lexus dealer(tech) and all of the outside temp sensors are behind the grille/front bumper support. The outside temp sensor on my 02 F150 is also behind the grille. It doesn't get heat from the radiator in this location.
I was installing my chrome covers on the mirrors and noticed that same little panel with a sensor coming out the bottom. Now the dilemma. How to put my chrome covers AND keep the sensor functional. Any answers???
Solved that issue. Made me a template of the bottom of the mirror. Transferred that to the new mirror cover and cut it out with my trusty Dremel tool. Fits like a glove with complete access to the sensor.
