power door lock remote question

I just bought an F350 with power locks. The PO did not have any remotes and was not sure if it ever had a remote ( he was 2nd owner). The truck is a 2000 model year XLT. Did all trucks with power door locks in 2000 have a remote or was that a separate option? What is involved in adding remote capabilities (factory) if it was an option?

If it did come with the option, all you need to do is buy and them program the remote. All you have to do is press and hold down the lock button while you cycle the key on and off eight times within ten seconds, sitting inside the truck with the doors closed. The locks will pop letting you know that the remote is successfully programmed. If you do not have the option, it is a lot easier just to get an aftermarket setup.

Keyless entry was not standard on XLT, but power door locks were. So you probably don't have the keyless option.

You can test that theory by following the procedure in your owners manual for programming the key fobs. If you have the option, the door locks will cycle as part of the programming, and then you could just buy fobs. If they don't cycle, them I am correct and you don't have the option.

If you want to add the option, best to go with an aftermarket alarm system. Adding factory keyless is not practical. I don't know anyone who has accomplished it.
