New truck

Hey guys, I just bought a 2006 F-350 with a 6.0 diesel. Kind of looking for some advice on this engine. The truck I traded in on it was a 2001 F-250 with the V-10. I have never owned a pickup with a diesel so I am kind of flying in the dark here when it comes to maintence, any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have heard a lot of good comments on this engine is why I decided to go with it.
Thanks, Scott.

well ur lucky, all I heard was negative about the 6.0L but I bought it anyway. Mine is a 2005 F-250 and im happy so far. Wont offer anything other then get the oil and filter changed, and fuel filters no matter if the seller told you it was just done. Better safe then sorry.

check the degas to be sure there is no oil in it. if so go back to the dealer!
i would do exhaust, egr delete for starters. again make sure the coolant looks good. you dont want to deal with a bad oil cooler right off the bat and clean coolant will keep the oil cooler alive.

I wouldn't jump the gun on the EGR delete.

How many miles, mods, etc?

I would say go in the tech folder and just start reading around...

Keep up on oil changes, fuel filters every 15K use OEM filters only.

i agree, to many people jump at this option.
only thing i would advise is s set of gauges. alot are using scan gauge II here.

tell us more about your truck.
ask yourself what you want to do with your truck before you throw mods at it.

Maintance is key. Change your oil every 5-7k miles (I do 5k myself). I along with many others on here recomend running a 5w40 syn oil. Change fuel filter every 15k with oem ones. Use only oem filters across the board. Flush the trans (use only mercon sp or mercon lv) every 50k as well as coolant. A good set of gauges is a very good idea. Also stick with the oem air cleaner. No matter what those aftermarket cai companies clam, on the 6.0, the oem one will flow as much or more air than anything else out there, and filter better too. Take some time to do some reading through the tech folder it will help get you familiar with your new ride. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the tips guys. The truck has just 64,000 miles on it and looks well taken care of, I dont really plan on doing any mods to it right now, but in the future?? who knows. One quick question, what does "oem" stand for?
Thanks again.

Wish I could post pictures here, I have a 1976 F-150 that my dad bought new, cool old truck and still runs good (man I bet you can guess what my fuel bill is per month!!).
I have a good friend who has a 04 F-350 with the 6.0 diesel. I noticed when he drives his truck you can really hear the turbo, not so much on mine, just wondering why that would be??

agreed. its because he has exhaust not neccesarily straight pipe though. when i first did my exhaust it was straight through. no cats no muffler. i didnt care for the sound at wot though. at idle the thing sounded like a damn jet. i put the muffler on to get rid of the raspy sound at wot but you can still hear the turbo hissing at idle. not as loud as with no muffler but still hear it well.
