I just got done installing the PIE unit (for the AUX button on the stereo)...and to tell you the truth...I think the sound quality sucks. Anybody else feel this way ? I'm using it with my Motorola Droid X phone, playing music I have downloaded to the phone, and also tried it with Pandora.
I agree - sounded overdriven with my iPod in 2006 model
To be fair, there is an input level adjustment on it that I may not have set properly. Still sounded crappy on the lower driven sound though, so probably won't make much of a difference.
I believe what your refering to is a "gain" dial. My instructions from the manufacturer said to rotate it counter clockwise fully...which I did. I was just expecting at least the same (or close to) sound quality as my truck stereo by itself. I'm kinda really dissapointed.
looks like i may be going with an aftermarket unit then.
i put an Alpine 103bt in the wifes freestyle and it is great.Built in bluetooth and ipod/phone control from the deck.
As long as the sound quality on your ipod is good you cant tell the difference between ipod and cd.
I now have the 2011 superduty with the Sync system with Bluetooth and it sounds great with my Phone 3G and wife's iPhone 4 I even get close to the truck and it starts playing where it last left off and sounds great!
Company that makes adaptors to hook mp3 players and other electronics into factory radio, often using the aux input. Google pie adaptor and you should find their website.
Got one for 1006 Acura MDX and it seems to work much better, though it may have been a competing brand and it is installed under the dash so I can't easily check the model.
I'd put one of those big screen/touch screen units in if:
1) It was super easy to install (plug and play).
2) It worked with my steering wheel controls (love em).
3) Looked factory (dont want it cobbed up with adapter plates).
4) Didnt hafta sell both of my dogs to afford said unit.
My thoughts exactly. # 2 is the biggest thing for me. I love my steering wheel controls. I have looked into some of the units that allow you to maintain them but haven't heard much good feed back.
I haven't use the AUX input yet, but the blue tooth sound quality is just as good as the Satellite radio. I use my iPhone 4, and it is cool that it picks back up from the same point you shut off the truck.
