I've been reading up on that parking brake setup- it has a few issues, but over-all it seems like a good unit. I found a few exploded diagrams of it as-well, but I still don't know if it will work with my 2wd NP435. It seems that attaching it to a 2wd ZF tranny requires replacing the main-shaft and a few other parts- but I can't find anything on the 435.
Anyone done this before?
Also, how would I get the thing off the junkyard donor truck? I heard some mention of it being a pain to get off, but can't find much info on it.
EDIT: How many splines are on that ZF tranny output? I believe I have a 28 spline NP435, I kinda doubt that a ZF from a F450 would have that few splines... This could be a deal breaker.

Like i was saying earlyier, I think you would need a 4WD trans or in your case a 4WD main shaft and adapter. I belive the unit bolts right onto a 4wd ring on a trans. Just like a transfer case would on a 4wd.
All the full size ford I have seen with married transfer cases has a round bolt patteren with one dowl pin.
Its been years ago but I did unbolt this same unit on my (89 F-450)truck. and it is just a matter of 6? bolts and one cable.
How does it attach to the mainshaft? Does it bolt to a flange on the back of the mainshaft? Or does it have splines? This 4x4 stuff is a whole new world for me.

on a 4WD trans there is a flat round flange and the main shaft stick out something on the order of 1 1/2 inches out of the flanged adaptor. the case or E brake unit in this case has a shaft wwitha matching set of internal splines. you line up one the shafts and as you slide the units together tou will see the dowl pin and the hole for it. then its just bolts.
4WD transmission output shafts do not have ANY threads on them (this only applies to married tranfered cases)
divorced cases use 2WD trans units and another driveshaft.
You can see quite a bit from looking at pics found on ebay. look around you will see.
I got my lever! I got it from Wayne (aka 52merc) from one of his f-6 parts trucks. It bolted right up to my transmission, and it should work great! The only issue might be clearance between the dash, but I can't tell at the moment because the transmission is out of the truck.
As far as the actual e-brake mechanism, I think I'm sticking with the drums on the rear axle. I managed to find some cables for the setup that should work, I'll be installing them tomorrow.

That's a good decision. I've heard that if the seals leak on those ZF mounted ones you can toast them and they aren't cheap to fix/replace. I hope I never need to find out. I've got a transmission mounted E-brake assembly on my 91 F-Super duty ( F450 ) . But it doesn't have a hand lever. It is operated by the regular E-brake pedal.
Good luck on your install! Hopefully it all goes smooth for you.
I put the transmission in, so here's a picture of it and the lever:
I've still got to cut the front cable to length and modify it to work with the new lever, but I am very happy with it so far! I did have to make a bracket to move to back about 6-8 inches, otherwise it wouldn't clear the dash. Other then that, no issues!
