It looks like my Alt. went ****-up, so I want to upgrade it while I have a chance.
What Alternator, that came in the '70's trucks, had the highest output and won't mess up my electrical system or blow up the (brand new) voltage regulator?
You need to look for a '78 to '79 wrecker . I put a 100 amp alternator in my old mans '78 F150 4x4 . You can go to napa or advance auto and get this alternator but I really think you will need the corect wiring harness or you may burn up the one on the truck . I was able to use the harness off of the wrecker ..http://www.partsamerica.com/product_...6/186-6198.jpg there is a pic of it . This alternator is pricey, $167.00 at advance auto . It is listed as a heavy duty for the '79 F350

Gene , I can't wait to see a picture of that Dolly Parton alternator that was on your truck. Please take a picture and post it in your gallery....Boy , i don't know if you will beable to get "both of 'um" in one picture......that sounds like a special order item to me. fd
I added an alt from a 1988 F250 Diesel to my 79 F150, was told it was the largest alt that would fit in the stock location, although it is not what you are looking for it is from the 80's and not the 70's it's still 105 amps (I think) and required the regulator for higher amps, however the stock charging wire needs to be upgraded (4 Ga. works good) anyways thats just my 2 cents worth.
Try looking here http://www.bcbroncos.com/ look under tech tips for Ford 3G altnator installation. This is instructions for installing a newer style ford alt. that has an internal regulator. They are very small and you can get one up to 130 amps from a wrecking yard off a newer car or truck and they are almost a direct bolt on.
Hope this helps Leadmic
