paint question

How much paint will I need to buy for my truck. I want to do a two tone paint that is separated at the body line where the trim should go. I am not painting inside my bed. I also want to paint the interior a different color too. I am thinking 2 gallons for the exterior 1 of each color, and 2 qt for the interior? How far off am I? I need to upload a pic of my 66 short bed here.

one gallon for the main color + reducer + hardener = 1.5 gallons or more of material

2 qts for the accent color + reducer + hardener....

1 qt for the interior...

thin coats are best

this should be enough paint to spray 2 good solid coats

What kind of paint do you plan to use? single stage or base clear?

I am not sure what kind of paint it is. I am really liking the Kustom Shop Hot Rod Flatz series. Initially I was thinking single stage since I have never painted an automobile before. Usually it has been rattle can and nothing big.

The way it looks to me it is single stage. Is it easy for a novice to do?

Anytime a novice is going to undertake any challenge in life, I've learned from experienced that it's worthwhile
practicing before the major project. Use a decent paint gun, and practice a bit to become fluid. Use a moisture
collector on your air-hose. When it comes to paint, I've had very good experience with PPG paints and clear-coats.
I've used them on three helicopters and my racing bicycle and truck. They are usually a three part paint with a
reducer and hardener...usually a 4:1:1 ratio, and for application, use no more that 35-40psi, otherwise you get too
much atomization and end up drifting paint all over the place and wasting it. Painting in the back yard is a tough one,
bugs and debris always seem to find your canvas! Try and paint indoors or build a make-shift tent. PPG clearcoat is
great, but I'll tell you, clearcoats are tough to get perfect if you're not a painter....you want a decent temp. to get
good flow on the surface....this is my experience, as a not so novice painter....but definitely not an expert!
Good luck!
Jason

All Great advice Jason!

Buy a quart and try a body panel... maybe pull your hood and see how you do?

I paint for a living... but not cars or trucks

if you can find it, Dupont Centari is a single stage and easy to use.

Jason thanks for the advice. I was going to tarp off everything in my garage to protect other stuff from overspray. I am going to ask the body shop next door for a junk fender for me to practice on. As for the dupont paint, is there a national chain that carries it or do I need to check at some of the mom and pops places
