Piant job

I was wondering what a paint job would cost for my truck. Its a 95 ford f-150 standard cab short bed. I want to piant it the same color, but i just want the outside painted. Not inside the truck like the door jams or iside the bed of the truck at all because i am planning on outting herculiner in there. i want it sanded and primered then painted. How many clear coats would make it as shiny as the factorys paint. Thanks!

Depending on the prep work involved (dents dings...) it should not be too bad. If you go to a body shop and have done most of the prep work (removing all the chrome) it might me in the neighborhood of $1000 or so for base coat clear coat paint. One coat (or two if needed of base) and 2 coats of clear.

If you want to tackle the adventure yourself it will cost you far less. Visit www.autobodystore.com and purchase Len's video.

A paint job will run anywhere from $500 to $8k depending on what you want. I found that most places are not interested in doing whole cars. If you find a high end body shop willing to do it it will be in the order of $3-6K. The Miricles and Maccos are a lot cheaper but there attention to detail is lacking. You get what you pay for. If your looking to just spruce up an old truck and are notlooking for a show job and are willing to live with a little wave, the $800 paint jobs at the cheap places are a pretty good deal.

You could do it yourself but by the time you buy the necessary equipment to safely spray the Isocyanate paint you will have at least $500 into a ventalation system.

I would agree with Bob that the best way to get a good paint job is to do the prep work yourself and pay somebody to spray it. The prep is were all the time is anyway. If your looking for a straight finish nothing beats blocking, blocking,....
