[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Nov-02 AT 10:18 PM (EST)]Was given a 1987 F-150 w/4.9 L-6. Told computer is out and needs timing gears. Unsure of condition of engine. Can get reliable 4.9 from uncle out of 84. I know that the heads are different. Are the blocks the same?
all motors from 87-95 are the same, and utilize the same parts. pre-87 trucks had carbs and different heads, intake, and exhaust, ant the 96 had a different computer setup, but mechanically was the same.
thanx for reply. have a "ford guru" friend near uncle w/engine. will consult with him about fuel pump difference. I thought the basic L-6 design hadn't changed , and this seemed like a good place to ask.:-X12
First check to see if the block has a provision for a knock sensor, look on the 87 motor and then on the 84 motor, other than that yes the blocks are the same
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Dec-02 AT 06:14 PM (EST)]Small chevy's have 2 bolts on the fuel pump or the block off plate, not 4. I know, my friend's race car is a small block chevy.
