Get some fine sand paper and clean off the harmonic balancer, there ARE timing marks, they may be faint and hard to see but they ARE there.. If not it is a VERY rare Ford engine..

after giving it a bit of a sand, get a white crayon or something to fill them, makes them super easy to see.
if by some strange happenstance you don't have marks, get a vacuum gunge and set the timing by that.
