Well Im in the building stages and was wondering what the best motor mount for a 55' with a 460? I've loked at several mounts and are unsure which ones work the best. I will be using a C6 with stock front suspenion, if that matters.

I've seen these mounts from speedway motors 429-460 Ford Weld-In Motor Mounts - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop. Any opinions on these?

Actually it does, at least on a 48-52, depending on what front suspension is used. With a stock type front suspension some builders like to use the cross-member type engine mount to reinforce any possible frame flexing from the larger engine.

I am also using a 460 and originally had this great plan to build some mounts similar to the speedway ones but the 48-52 frame is narrower so ended up modifying a weld-in cross-member mount, if I had to do again I think I would look at a bolt in cross-member style, I like the extra bracing, it’s a heavy engine

 

Did you ever decide on a mount system and what front end are you using?

The reasons I ask are I am in the process of installing a Mustang II from Heidts and I want to make sure that all is where it needs to be and there is no clearance issues with the oil pan, etc. I removed the Volare suspension, because it was not installed properly and they had welded motor mounts right on top of the suspension which worried me, along with the large steering box, etc.

Any advise would be great.

 

the 460 is do-able. but .that is what i am using also. fatman mII,canton fox body oil pan.custom mounts and fpa headers. not cheap. i love the 460 but i could have bought 3 sbc engines for the price of parts just to be able to install the bbf.. but who would want a ride in it with a chebby motor.much much cheaper..my mounts are homemade using energy-suspension bushings,pipe and part of the fomoco mount. the sbc fit w/o anything special. whodathoughtit..

Thanks for the response. I agree with some of this cost, but my other option is a 351C which is about as pricey. I am still thinking I am going to have to use a rear sump pan which I found one not too pricey and for protection I would prefer it behind the crossmember. I t appears that I will have to use a weld on mount that welds to the crossmember, but I am still a couple weeks away from that. Just hoping someone had already walked this road.
