My 2001 V10 Excursion won't start. When I turn the key, nothing happens. No tick noise, sometimes there is a short(1/2 second) growling noise coming from the front of the drivers side of the engine bay after I stop trying to start the car. I have replaced the ignition switch, the starter solenoid, and the starter - battery fine only a year old. I have removed the corrosion from the connectors and still no dice. All electrical components work fine radio, power locks, power seats, etc. Any experts out there know have a suggestion? Only thing I can think of is a bad wire somewhere.
I'm no professional, but it looks okay to me. I just had the transmission done, it worked fine for about a week after that and then this. In reviewing the chilton manual it says to check the transmission range sensor, perhaps it was damaged during the transmission repair.
If it's the neutral safety switch, try moving the gear shifter around while trying to start. BUT BE CAREFUL !!!!!! IF IT STARTS IN GEAR IT WILL TAKE OFF ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Son of a gun. I have been screwing with this thing all weekend. I feel pretty stupid now. I just changed the gears and then tried to start it and it fired right up...
Anyway, thanks A LOT Chris! On the bright side, 3 days ago I really had no idea what was involved in starting the car, now I have a pretty good idea.
