I want to get my 9 inch rear end installed this summer in my 53. I am still at a lost on what to use to mount it. I originally tried to find lower mounting brackets similar to the stock ones underneath the axle so I could keep the lower shock mounting in the same place. No luck. I bought some similar to them but did not have the ear for the shock. I cannot use them anyway because the holes for the u-bolts are two wide. I do not want to purchase the expensive kits on the market for this swap because I do not need everything that is in the kit. Anyone have pictures of what they used?

Here's a couple pics of my 9" install. The Ubolt plates are the stock ones from the 71 f100 that the rear end came out of. I cut off the stock shock mounts and fabricated new ones in the correct location. My truck is a 49 f-1.
If you click on the pictures you will get a bigger version you can actually see.
I was told use 58-60 f100 plates as they have the shock mounts and are a bolt in swap as they use a 9". I have a 53 and was looking at doing the same thing. I kept the flathead and just wanted better mileage so going to do a t5 swap instead ad the dana 44 will be no issues with the flathead.
Don't have a 9 inch but I used these from Summit to mount my 10 bolt Chevy (same 3 inch diameter as a nine inch) . They were not expensive and come with shock mounting bolts...
problem is the stock set up is spring over axle. most of the flat plate ones won't work unless you put the axle over the springs. if your going to keep it stock, it's not the expensive. the 9" sits right under the stock springs and the kit from mid fifty is $99 with the shock studs. you'll need to cut off the stock brackets on the 9" and weld on the new ones. if you score the u bolts from the 9" donor truck it's about $85 fro the parts you'll need. don't use the spring plate from the donor truck because the spring is wider the the stock springs, use the one from mid fifty.
or i've HEARD the spring perch from a f250 53-56 (?) will work, but i can't confirm this since i haven't seen them.
In Mervy49 pictures it looks lke the ubolts are not up against the side of the leaf springs. Is this ok? I have some plates that have the curve in them to fit under the axle. They are off some gm vehicle I think. But the holes for the ubolts are wider then the stock so they will not be against the spring.

I know what your saying but there is very minimal space between the springs and the bolts. The caster shim is the exact measurement and acts as a spacer to keep the springs and bolts centered (along with the center bolt) to stop any side to side movement.

that's what i was talking about, mine had those and the looked like it moved a little. mid fifty sell the correct (3" tube with a 2" wide leaf spring) "tie plates" for $10 each. the one in the picture above is for a 2 1/2" wide spring.
If you use 58-60 f100 plates they have the proper bolts for the shocks and are bolt in no modifications. I paid 45 for mine used and he even cleaned them up before shipping them.
No welding, no trying to make some weird adapter its a factory part.
So if I use a 58-60 plate I wont have to move the shock mount on the 9" and just use the mount on the plate?
Correct. The plate supports a 3" axle as it did come with a 9" in that year and it has the shock mount already on it just like the factory one from a 53-55. I also have heard 53-55 f250 plates works but are harder to find.
beautiful! Now I just have to find some. Anyone know the "official" name for the plate?
its called the U bolt tie Plate. from Mid fifty's catalog.. page 148
this is only for reference.. they have them, don't know if they sell separate..
