replacing an injector today

Any unforseen issues I may experience ?
Have read thru the procedure in the tech page.
My chilton book is pretty much useless having mostly all info for 7.3 & very little for 6.0.

Is the copper washer not coming out with the injector mainly an issue of the 7.3 or can it also happen with the 6.0?

If it doesn't come out, how do you get it out.

Trying to cover all the bases before hand as I need to have the truck running for tomorrow.
It also makes it hard to post questions while working on it since I have no internet signal in the garage and have to take the laptop to the driveway to post.

the copper washer can be an issue but mainly they come out. just check it on the end. if not use some long neddle nose. which side are you replacing. if drivers side its simple if your doing passenger side take out the inner finder lining. makes things go tons smoother! take your time and dont damage the o rings on the new injector.

Injectors are pretty easy, just time consuming. Don't forget to tourqe the hold down to 24ftlbs. Use a 17mm socket to push the elec. Conector back through the rocker carrier. All the injectors I've done. Have had the washer come out with the injector. I imagine if the washer wanted to stay in. I would start by useing the old injector to get it out. Or some stiff wire bent with a hook on the end and a flashlight. Good luck!

A set of gasket picks is handy, but be careful not to scar surfaces machined for the injectors. I believe they can stay in there commonly. Take your time, keep everything nice and clean. If you have troubles you can post and hopefully gurus like cheezit can help you through.....

Early 6.0L injector torque spec was 24 ft-lbs, later they increased it to 26 ft-lbs, and most builders do 28 ft-lbs to ensure the copper washer crushes sufficiently. Use a good torque wrench, I bought an electronic 3/8" 100 ft-lb wrench for the job. Also, lube the injector really well to make sure the o-rings don't tear (use oil, not Vaseline). Also, be sure to keep the injector clamp bolt hole free of oil so it doesn't hydro-lock and affect your torque numbers.

Thanks guys.
Replacing #8 injector. Already ahead of the game, tore it apart Friday night.

Unreal04,
Thanks for the tip about getting the plug out of the rocker cover but that won't be a problem. The plug is mangled (u responded to my other post). It won't properly fit & stay in the rocker cover and the wiring harness plug will not properly stay on the injector plug.

Any tips for pushing the new injector plug into the rocker cover?

Be sure and lube the o-ring on the new plug. I had a lot of trouble getting mine to fit through, I think they used a thicker standard o-ring on the reman injector plug than the original thinner metric o-ring.

Don't worry about draining the rail. A little diesel will drain into the cylinder, but it will leak past the rings by the time to fire the truck up, just change the oil after the work is completed and it test drives okay.

tore it down to the valve cover but did not pull the injector, so it is not too late.

if I crack the banjo bolt on the front of the head will that do the trick? Would I still need to change oil? Got about 500 miles on the truck since last change.

You'll need to get new copper washers for the banjo bolts. At least I would replace them, you could try re-using them if you want.
