Take a gander at the rear seat area in the new F150 Super Crews. There's enough room back there to 'swing a cat' cuz Ford added 7 1/2" when they re-designed the truck.
The overall length with the 5.5 bed is now 231 1/2" up from the 2004/2008's 224 inches.
The downside is...it may not fit into your garage.
'Ya know, if Ford wanted to, they could go out and buy comparable FIAT/Ram and GM models and take plenty of time to pick apart the weaknesses of each. Then they could make a bunch of videos demonstrating the weaknesses of the other two. FIAT/Ram could do the same. Heck, any manufacturer (given enough time, money, and desire to grasp at straws) could pick the others apart. Trucks are imperfect machines and the day they design the perfect one with no weak spots and no inferiority, none of us will be able to afford one.
Looking at the sales numbers, GM had to do something I guess. And FIAT/Ram Trucks has Sam Elliot as a spokesperson now. I'll take my inferior Ford any day of the week. The wife's got a Yukon Denali and it's a great vehicle but it's not a work vehicle. For work, give me my Ford. On top of that, the interiors of the GM trucks are really getting old and need serious help. Plus, the rear legroom is terrible if you're behind a tall driver, even in a crew cab model. But things like that don't matter here I guess since Chevy has a fully boxed frame and stiffer rear leaf springs.
Without getting into politics, I'll just say it's pretty easy to dump a boatload of money into redesigning a truck when it's subsidized by huge amounts of money provided by citizens and it's not coming out of the corporate coffers.
Well said John and I couldn't agree more! I hope this discussion continues, some very good and valid points are coming out.
I knew this article would get some blood boiling, it sure got my temper up.
Another interesting thing to note is that when GM and Ford were both using C-channel frames the rice burners from Nissan and Toyota were using box frames. Does anyone remember how box frames held up in the salt belt? I prefer to have a C-channel frame that doesn't hold sand, salt and mud inside to rot it out.
This is SO funny. It reminds me of when I was younger (a lot younger) and how we would constantly argue over the superiority of vehicle brands. I even had a LARGE sticker in my window of a roadrunner and a caption saying 'beep-beep my ***'. I'm sure some of you guys remember that one.
Guess some thing never change,,, as it should be.... HAAAAAAAAAAAA ;o)

What I noticed about this thread is that we have to learn to stop using the name Dodge when talking about trucks. It is now called Ram brand. No more Dodge Ram!

Fixed mine......and Tim's quote too. Maybe we should be calling them FIAT 3500s and 2500s with the FIAT Cummins and FIAT Hemi.
It appears lately that pickuptrucks.com likes to posts the GM advertisements.
Just look at how long c-channel frames have been on the market. They have proven themselves. They may not be the stiffest but they last and are proven. I'll keep my c-channel frames no matter how crappy the OEMs say they are in testing. We will see how these super stiff boxed frames hold up after years of use as the steel normalizes and corrosion sets in.
This has all been covered before. Can't bolt stuff down to a box frame. Box frames rust, look at toyota. Ford has gotten down the road just fine with C-channel frames forever, no reason to change.
I drive around with 6000 lbs of sand in the back of my truck all winter. I plow and sometimes I get the truck all twisted up and bang the plow into banks and all I have to say is Built Ford Tough is way good enough for me..I can't break it..
There are some good points there, but I never intend to ABUSE my truck like how they did in the twist test or slam on the brakes from 70-0 10 times in a row... One thing I do know, at least my power windows still run up and down full speed with the motor off... my buddies Chevy windows got so weak you had to have the rig running just to roll up the windows... and it still took 15 seconds at that!
I scanned a few of the comments on the page. I like how the Chevy guys come out super defensive about the bankruptcy and government takeover. Well people your beloved Chevys wouldn't even be here with out us taxpayers taking care of them.
I will still take a straight axle front end over IFS any day of the week. That alone is enough for me to stick with Ford. But I'll always stick with Fords.
Heck, I'll drive just about anything if the price is right. I like em all. Too bad we can't pick out the best features on each one and build our own. ;o) I have a 2006 silverado that has everything on it you could possibly order that year. Every option box was marked and than some. Things happened that I just couldn't turn down a good deal. With out going into it, friends of mine work there and I managed a very good deal so I took advantage of it. Doesn't really matter anymore since the economy took a dump right after that and now most vehicles are not worth the change in your pocket.
The one I always wanted was that fancy Lincoln truck but at the time, no $$$. Its ok, I like the silverado I have and it will do for now. Wish I could have one of everything. Next lifetime. ;o).

Does chevy have a sway bar on the front and rear? I'm guessing by the extreme axle articulation that it didn't . I'd also bet that the Ford had a rear sway bar in addition to the front one. Sure they cut down on the articulation, but it handles a lot better with a load in the bed.
