98 f250 starter help

ok so the starter just went out on my brothers 98 5.4 and i replaced it but all i am getting is a click when i try to start it and when i jump the terminals on the solinoiid it will crank over. any ideas?

The relay solenoid has a fuse. Maybe it is partially destroyed? Jumping bypasses the fuse.

Where is that click coming from when you use the key?

What are you jumping, the terminals on the starter solenoid (on the starter), or the relay on the firewall? Which specific terminals?
