Ok hive...especially all you wiring harness gurus or at least someone with a service manual.
I am trying to hook up my radar detector as this truck goes way too fast. I mounted it on left most section of the dash near the riser. I ran the cable down to under the dash and was looking for someplace to tie it in. I noticed about a dozen wires that are dead-ended and taped up to the wiring harness that passes through the firewall between the e-brake and the steering column (see pic). Don't have a clue what these are for. I want a "hot when engine on" wire so the radar detector shuts down with the truck.
Can someone tell me what these wires are for, are they fused, and is there one I can use without messing anything up? Color code?
When i do mine, I run it to a fuse box and use a little clip that protrudes out from a "keyed" fuse and i am done with it. They cost about $.10 at most automotive stores. 10 minute job.
Askyour electrical supply for "fuse taps". Pick the radio or other such curcuit. Other alternative is upfitter switxh 3 or 4, lower amp curcuit. I use 4 switch for ipod chargeing, going to power 3 to run sat radio.
Those are the upfitter leads. I am sending this on a mobile device and can't search easily. Search the forum for the body builder document. Might be in the sticky posts.
Why bother?...Once you get 'lit up', the LEO has your speed, with laser anyway...
Because my Passport pays for itself a least once a week. Driving without it is like driving naked. Not too much laser around here but it has saved me countless times from that too.
I don't speed most of the time but I do like to know where the popo is. Its the 5 over tickets that I hate the most.
