With the 4 bolt model, i put a multi-meter on the far right bolt closest to the drivers side fender. In hte off position, i got 20.x volts. When my 8yr old daughter turned the key to on, I got still 20.x volts for the first 1 second or so, then 48.5v. Can someone tell me if this is a good voltage?
Also, if anyone is in hte immediate vacinity to the collegeville area, and would like to help themselves to a few beers and browse the forum on my laptop while i'm under the hood of my truck tonight and/or tomorrow, hit me up at 610-489-1018. Come on out, it's miller time!

p.s. It's a royal pita to jump up and down from the truck to check someothing on the net.
i'm not saying its bad advice, i'm just trying to get a better understanding. it was 20.x in the off position too. i'm not 100% sure i did it right either.
i didn't try it while cranking as it was my 8 year old daughter performing the key cycling, though i'm thinking i am going to try that one too.
any idea what a dealer ficm costs? i see them onine for $200-300 but i would like to see if i can get one tomorrow and get this out of the way this weekend. my neighbor just pulled up so i'm going to see if i can get him to cycle the key for me a few times.
I hate to say but I have never checked one with the key off. seems starange that you would see voltage at 20v as the relat iirc is powered via the pcm power relay as well, there for the dc/dc converter should be either base battery or 0v. hmmm Its been a long day
i figured out what the 20v was. the capacitors were just draining after the key was turned off. did it again and it started at 38v(time it took me to get from truck to under the hood) and drained clear to flat. it's 0v with the engine off.
while what sounds like a compressor from the left side of the engine is going off, i have 48.6-8v. the the compressor soundign thing goes off and it stays at that voltage. calling neighbor to have him cyce the key for me.
i cycled the key again and bam, 20.x voltage. The results were inconsistant so Im going with it's bad, chances are i did it right at least once and didn't get the desired results. Oh well, a hell of a lot easier than figuring out which injector it is, considering it wasn't throwing injector codes. Tomorrow I'll call the dealer and see what a ficm goes for.
