Yesterday was fun, but today...UGH! kill me now. My back is hurting &stiff. Think I'm going to go back to bed with a ice pack & maybe later go soak in the jacuzzi.
Have a great Thursday.
So, how far did you get? Motor is out I assume. What are you doing to her? Full rebuild? Stock, or performance?
We're yanking the 390 out & rebuilding the top end - timing chain, cam, push rods, lifters, change manifold from 2 barrel to 4 barrel, Carter 4 barrel carburator, & new gaskets, seals, etc! WOOHOO...no more oil leaks! We're going to pressure wash the engine & engine compartment, paint them & make it look all pretty for car shows.
She's not going to be my race truck just yet - need about $10,000+ for that engine! But, changing out the manifold & carb, should make her quick (suck the gas, but quicker)
This was originally supposed to be a general repair job, but it turned out to be more!
I know she didn't come from the factory with a 390/c6, so she's already not stock. Someone had tried to set her up for racing - probably for the local 1/4 mile tracks, but tore her up! When I bought her, some teeny bopper was driver her. So, that pretty much explains everything. LOL! She's old & tired, so it's time to put some life back in her!

I see a lot of those trees around the Southland, including right here in Whittier, and I know I've seen them in Fullerton too. You do NOT want to run up against one of them without good armor.
From what I can Google up, their common name is Silk Floss Tree. Would'a never guessed that name by looking at them. Latin name is Ceiba Speciosa. Native to So Amer, so it is no suprise that you saw them in Chile. Feel free to correct any of that, because I just grabbed it from a quick Google.
My interest is in how they would turn on the lathe. I have not yet come across one that was taken down, so I have no idea what the timber looks like. My guess is that it is more of a shrub than a true tree, and as such would be too soft to work well. Some day maybe I will get some.
