Need help with some fluid changes!
The truck has around 2k miles left till it hits 200k miles. The PO of this truck was kind of a dumby and never changed fluids (as far as i could tell)
I'm afraid to change the transmission fluid because if I do, I don't want anything bad to happen..should I drain a little bit, and add synthetic to it and slowly work it like that? I'm at a total blank here.
Also..Differential fluid, and gasket. I have never changed the diff. fluid and I don't even know what type to use. Axle code is 35. If i'm not mistaken, it's a 10.25 sterling with 4.10's. Not sure.
I guess what i'm asking is, should I change the tranny fluid with this many miles, and if so, how/what should i use? and what fluid will i need to change the diff fluid?
I'm in no big hurry to change it, but it's something that I just want out of the way for a while..

Thanks is Advance! D
As for the differential, just go to the neighborhood autoparts, and they can reference it for ya....Easy thing, the suction gun and an hour will have it whipped....There is a plug on the side, use a 1/2" (IIRC) ratchet to remove it....Just be VERY careful, as they like to round out on you if you aren't careful....

As far as it crapping out, I would be about 98% sure its not going to....However, if it has any issues underlying, the fresh fluid will allow the bugs to come out....But a c6 rebuild is nowhere NEAR as much as a E4OD....Which, BTW, the E4OD are actually pretty tough...Itrust me, I had one in my 94', with 267k miles, and I beat on it daily...And had never had the fluid changed as far as I know....

dreaded
'backflush' where they hook your truck up to some recycle machine that replaces your fluid with new stuff by BACKflushing it.
so all the sludge that is/was happy wherever it is/was is now blown backwards and clogs stuff up.
There is also a plug somewhere on the torque converter,
so they say...drain the pan and change the filter and pan gasket.
Make sure the atf is 98.6 degrees so you can't feel it run into your armpits...or down your neck.
Put a few quarts in and disconnect the return line and let it blow into a bucket while you add new atf. and it will also drain the torque converter too so no need to fool with that silly plug.
17 to 20 quarts, popped open and ready to go.
That's why I still haven't done mine.
