I'm sure this has been answered many times but I couldn't find anything in my search.
Is a Super Duty lift kit and an Excursion lift kit the same? If so, why isn't the SD kit listed in the list of EX kits?
Reason I ask, I'd like to go a little bit higher with my EX. '99 - '04 Ford Super Duty 12.5" Suspension Systems - ICON Vehicle Dynamics I have heard good things about this company. the bigger the better and all I can do is bolt on.
That is basically a 8" kit with a 4.5" shackle kit. If you are going to spend that kind of money you might as well get it done right. I certainly wouldn't want a 5.5" block in mine if I was lifting it that much.
If you notice their Ex kits say the parts are for SD.
Can I infer from you username that you live in Auburn? If so, it's just about a 40 min drive to BDS from their....
I think they all have a height limit on Ex lift kits for liability reasons (top heavy). The superduty lift kit installed on an Ex will give you about 2" more than what it is rated at cause a stock Ex is 2" lower to start with. A 8" SD kit would be 10 on an Ex. And if your Ex had stock worn out springs you might see 12. my 6" gave me 9" just cause the old were worn out.
If Im not mistaken a 4wd X sits at the same stock height as F250 fwd ( not FXoff road edition). I also do not believe that you can bolt on a SD kit as some modification will be needed. Yes the frame is essentailly the saem but whthe holes are for bolt on apps will differ slightly. As previously mentioned when lifting the ex have it done right and do not cut corners. 5" block in rear is a lot and I would suggest not doing that. Also X is much more top heavier then the SD. Safety is first over looks. Keep us posted and post pics during set up.
I agree with the no block thing. I did a bronco in college with a skyjacker 6 " kit with the blocks in the rear and i had a lot of spring wrap when offroading. It also made towing a trailer a little more fun. I would not do anything other than all spring. I also hate the way shackles look other than some of the really high dollar twisty shackles they use for serious offroading.
I have a Icon lift kit in my EX. Its the SD 6" all spring kit which it a 6" front spring and a 5" rear spring. I transfered the lift from my duty to my EX and everything bolted up but the rear shocks have a different mount. Also when I swapped the lift, I put my factory 3.625" F350 block in the rear because the rear of the EX is a lot heavier than the SD. Everything is documented in my "excursion on boggers" thead. I'd link you but I'm on my Bberry and its a pain in the ***
I already have an 8" lift with 37" tires. roughly 12" of total lift. I don't do any off roading with it, but it is my daily driver. I put it in one show last year for the

Ok, so you have an 8" lift and you want to upgrade to a 12" lift?
If you are happy with your ride and want to save some money, you could get the 4.5" spring hanger system from ICON and then get the high steer kit.
