I have a 2011 F-250 crew cab diesel. Carry a 100 gallon fuel tank which it handles OK. When I tow either my shop or dump trailer it really squats the truck. I'm debating air bags vs overload springs. Anybody had experience with either?
My dad has a 2008 F250 with a steel slide in dump box, empty with our equipment trailer its fine but if we put a yard of topsiol in the back it sat low.
He took it to a spring shop and they added a extra leaf to the spring pack and now it sits nice and level with the trailer and soil in it. The guy at the spring shop said the newer trucks have longer springs which give a better ride but sag more under weight. My dads old 97 GMC 2500 with the same combo never did this because of the shorter leaf springs.
All three solutions have thier pros and cons. The add-a-leaf and overloads are install and forget it solutions. However, the add-a-leaf will make it ride rougher and the overloads won't do much until you really load it down and by then it sags. The air bags will be able to be adjusted to the load and level all the time without effecting the ride unloaded if you air them down but you'll have to air them up and down as needed. Then again add an on board compressor and gauge/controller and you won't even need to get out of the cab to level it. Of course by then you are talking about lot more money than the add-a-leaf or overloads.
So what's more important to you? The money, the convenience, the ride, the leveling ability?
