I have been researching an electric fan conversion and have a question. In one of the threads I read someone said that when you put an electric fan on your truck you need to take the pulley off where the fan was and get a shorter belt but isn't that pulley still needed to turn the water pump?
That sounds like an AC delete with the shorter belt deal. But White 97 XLT is right, you need that pulley unless you go with an electric water pump as well. Personally I don't think an electric pump is worth the cost and the risk of it not working and toasting the motor.
Yes, the belt stays to drive the water pump.
Threads can contain fact or fiction. I tend to rely on repair manuals and posters who have done the work or have useful information or links. Fortunately on the Ford truck boards there are several Ford techs that regularly show up.
The internet is a great tool but you have to know how to use it.
Thats what I figured. The electric fan link in the tips and tricks sticky is broken too just so you know.
Honestly, I've never even read the sticky. I search for electric fan threads and the one I posted was fairly recent and very informative. Hope it helps you too.
I am pretty sure I'm going to do it. The fan clutch is going to need to be replaced and thats $70-$100 for parts and I can do the electric for that or less. My neighbor is big into rock crawling and said he's pretty sure he has an electric fan in his garage I can just have so all I would have to really buy is the controller.
