Ok, Here is the situation. I replaced both front rotors and pads june 2008 with powerslots/hawk pads. I replace the left side hub at tahat time also. Now the right side hub went bad last month to the point of the front wheel wobbling when the truck was lifted off the ground. So i replaced the right hub last week. All is good on the hub end. When i removed the rotor the inside of th rotor has a raised ridge on the center around the entire rotor. it is a pretty good raise also like 1/8 inch or so. the out side of the rotor had a wobble touch no touch effect where the brake pads hit. all of this was due to the wobble in the front tire from the bad hub. So now that all is back in alignment i feel a shutter when slowing down. Now my decision is.. should I try to get the rotor turned? I figured I would replace the pads on the right side as well. I was thinking of replaceing both side of the front pads. I feel the left rotor is in good shape. looks good and is nice and smooth. I just hate to throw away the right side rotor if I can get it "turned" just a little. Or should I just purchase a new rotor for the right side then replace the pads on both fronts. HAve anybody had sucess with turning these rotors? thanks Jeff
And another question I had.. I was thinking of just replaceing pads on both sides. Is there a pad I can get the will wear down the rotor smooth again on the inside? I dont think the rotor is warped maybe just the pads are all messed up from being out of alignment. I dont know what the different types of pads are for this application. I also tow a toy hauler (14k) a few times a year but that itself has triple axle brakes on it as well. thanks
If it's really worn an eighth of an inch, it's time for a new rotor. You can't turn that much out of them and still be within spec. If the hawk pads have done well for the last few years, I'd go back with them again. You can't blame the damage caused by a bad hub on the rotor or pads.
you just won't be happy having a rotor resurfaced. no way. it will be fine for a little while, but then it will be need to be turned again.
if you can swing it, replace the rotor and both sets of pads in the front. it is just better, so that they wear evenly. if not, replace the one and you might have to put up with a slight pull.
