Venting....

Please excuse me but.....
I am trying really hard to keep faith and belief in American made Ford trucks. I have always loved Ford trucks, I have had and built many of them. But, for the love of GOD, this 2006 6.0 is a hole in wich to throw your money. It seems to be a powerful, fast motor. However, every time I turn around, there is something else wrong with the truck. First it's a fuel leak on the left side of the motor, bad O ring. Then the guages on the dash go crazy, ie. while running around 55mph, the speedo will register around 100mph, the oil pressure guage drops to zero when at idle after the truck is warmed up. At times, when I go to start it, it will turn over fine; just no start. Then when it does start, it idles VERY low, eventually shutting off. Then most other times, it runs fine. 59000 miles, bought the truck new, oil changed every 5000 miles and both fuel filters changed every second oil change. What gives? I read these forums constantly, and judging from all the BS that I see peeps having with this seemingly POS, I need to trade it in and get rid of it. Sad... The dealer tells me it may be the cluster, or one of the ten thousand sensors and or modules or relays on the truck. Is it just me or is anyone else severley disappointed in this truck????????????????

My 04 with a 03 motor has been next to perfect for me. I have changed 1 injector and 1 alternator. But it does have 135,000 miles on it. About 45k are my miles alone. I checked the oasis report and it had 2 injectors done and a wheel speed sensor and the orange EGR hose and that's it. /shrug its hit or miss on a truck by truck basis.

This post is very similar to your post in January, Did you not ever address the cluster? It is highly likely that a new cluster will fix the instrumentation issues.

What filters do you use and how often do you drain the water separator (another past post mentioned the WIF w/ no posted conclusion)?

Wow! I am ashamed and embarassd! Totally forgot about that one. Forgive me fellas, but, $42,000.00 and all I have had is trouble. I will have to pay more attention in the future.
I use Purolator filters, and Rotella. As for the water seperator, I have not drained it (be honest, didnt know where it was) however, the light went off. After doing alot of reading on here tonight (bout 4 hours worth) I will drain it in the morning...

I would quit using purolator filters and stick w/ motorcraft , racor, or international.

Just changing filters will not drain the water collection area.

I suspect you have excessive pressure drop and low fuel pressure to the injectors (which can damage them).

A fuel pressure gauge is a very useful thing to install.

There has been reported problems with other than racor filters being used in these engines. Also be sure you are using a 15W40 oil in your warm weather.

The drain in under the cab located on the left side frame rail
