6.0 issues

Sorry guys if this issue has already been discucced. I have a 06 6.0 superduty with 55,000 miles. The oil has been changed every 5000 miles with Rotella. Recently I started having cold start issues (and I live in Fla). The truck would turn over for about 5 good seconds before it would fire off, then idle extremely rough. once it warmed up, it was fine. While doing my last oil change I noticed diesel fuel dripping from under the motor. I took the truck to Ford and they fixed the leak. Apparently it is a common problem, the fuel pressure regulator gasket. I also replace the fuel filters every second oil change. A few days ago, while driving about 50 mph, the speedo was showing over 100. I returned to Ford and it was working fine. Therefore they said they couldnt test it unless the problem was happening. Argh... It has been fine ever since. However, today the oil pressure guage is now dropping to zero when idle and an idiot light comes on. The Ford dealer said they bet it was a bad cluster? They said that though before the oil guage problem. speedo is working fine but now the oil guage problem? What gives? Any input is appreciated.

I can tell you that the speedo problem is a common fault with the cluster, especially in '06. My own has done it a couple of times, and so far it has corrected itself. I have not seen the oil pressure problem, but I am pretty sure it would be related to the same cluster issue. If you really had zero oil pressure, the engine would not run.

I do not think that is related to your sluggish starting issue. Probably two unrelated issues.

John,

We just had a lot of rain in FL. Perhaps you have a water leak
along the base of the windshield which is letting water get in
behind the dash. Weird electrical issues like that also can be battery related.

Starting issue is probably not related to the dash issues, but
they could have a common root cause...

Do a search on Stiction. There are a couple things that could cause your symptoms. it could also be a bad injector or two. Do you have the latest flash? Also does the oil pressure gauge climb while cranking?

I had an 07. A couple of years ago there was some sort of oil pressure switch bulletin on that. I sent it in for one thing and during that repair, they did this bulletin. When I picked it up, it had oil psi light coming on. Immediately called back and was told that if it was still running there was not an oil psi problem. Kept on asking about that bulletin but never did get a satisfactory answer on what they did but they did replace oil pressure sending unit. The service advisor (take this for what it is worth) said the bulletin involved cleaning it with compressed air. I do not know if it is possible but I suspect that overpressured it during the cleaning process.
