Hey Vibetech1, I've got the V-10 motor on a 2000 F-250.
I've been calling around to get a chip. Everyone say's they have them for only the V-8. I put in a K&N Air filter and had a new larger exhaust, didn't notice any difference. Keep the motor off or drive "lightly" HA, HA, I've put my foot into it also, only thing I notice is around 1-2 MPG when I drive like an old man!
Sorry, I know this probably isn't helping, just my 2Cents worth.
Good luck,
Dr Pete
Hey Yeti,
Any thoughts on the single stage or three stage.
As usual, confuse me with choices.
So I wait and ask what others use and their experiences.
Iam talking about the diablo chip, or superchip?
I would get this if it improves my MPG
Thanks for the help.

Go with the Diablo. Superchips charges diesel chip prices for V10 chips. Unless of course, if you're in California.... Diablo is not CARB (California Air Resources Board) certified yet.

Ken may say differently, and since he makes the chips he should know, but IMHO you should buy the chip for the added performance, not for fuel economy. Any increase you might see in MPG will be offset by the expense of having to buy premium fuel.
(And your new heavier foot)
No... I won't say differently. With gasoline engines mileage should not be the consideration with a chip... unless you're already running premium unchipped.
Just running 87 regular, and yes Iam in Sunny S. California.
Cost me $65.00 to fill up last week and the price was only $2.04 its now $2.09 for regular!
So, the regular Diablo chip won't let me use regular gas?
I have to buy the chip that will let me use regular gas instead of premium? This is the part that Iam not sure on, please clarify.
Thanks again for the help.
Dr. Pete
Chips are designed with power in mind. 87 octane programs, while they can be made, yield virtually no horsepower increase. Chips tend to give enough of a difference in mileage to offset the cost of premium. Results vary depending on how heavy your foot is!
That makes sense, I tend to go light on the gas pedal especially with the price of gas these days.
So I could expect to use a higher grade of gas to increase performance and also make up for the extra cost with a realistic MPG increase? I also pull a 25 ft trailer and so this should help with the performance, not that it even knows there is a trailer back there, truck actually seems to run better pulling the extra weight.
Thanks,
Dr Pete
On average you'll gain enough mileage to break even on fuel costs when prices are about $1.50/gallon if you're currently getting 20mpg. The higher they go, the better off you are buying premium and running with a chip because the price percentage between premium and regular gets smaller with higher prices.
A 20 cent difference at $1.50/gallon is 13%, a 20 cent difference at $2.00/gallon is 10% and so on. If you're mileage is less then 20mpg you're even better off (and it likely is worse with the V10).
Ya, I get around 8 MPG with the V10.
It's been really tough on the pocketbook running this truck.
Prices gotta go down or Iam going ride my bike, need to anyway I eat way too much these days. If I loose about 25 lbs that should increase my MPG
At least I can still make fun of it!
Thanks for the info.
