My sons and I pulled the bed off of my old F2 frame on Saturday. I found my previous owner's spare key! I think it has been there since 1952, but at least I have a spare ignition key now!
So nice when this happens.
I found a key under the hood of my 72 F350, which was a really good thing as there was no key for it when I bought it at an auction.
I wrecked a little Pinto wagon once and when I went to pick it up from the bodyshop he handed me 3 of the magnetic key holders he found hidden around the front clip during the rebuild, either the PO was really forgetful or it had had several owners and none (like me) knew there was a key hidden somewhere.
I'm not sure if it fits yet. I took my cab over to a body shop in San Jose to get some work done. Ilya (aka 51Panelman) facilitated a trade. I swapped a bunch of my F2 parts in trade for some body work. The shop is restoring an F2 & needed some parts that I had. I get my bullet hole and a big dent in my roof fixed along with a repair to a rusted area in my hood. I'm getting some progress in the area where my skills are the weakest (body work on big curved surfaces!).
im amazed that the wire holding the key held up that many years. that happened to me when i bought my 01 crew. the dealer only had one key and one day when i was rolling around under it on the creeper, there it was, zip tied to the frame.
I was looking at my worn key today thinking I would like to have a spare. I've been all over the frame it doesn't hold such a surprise. Maybe I'll find it somewhere stashed in the cab (since you can't lock yourself out of my '60).
Go get one made. I got one made at the local hardware store for my '54. They still had blanks...
Got to love old hardware stores. There's one near me that used to have gas pumps, they donate stuff to my Boy scout Troop occasionally.
Great story!
