I have a 72 f250 with front drums w/power, if I had a say a 73-79 donor f250 what off it would I need to do a disk brake swap, and while I was at it could I put the wider 73-79 brake pedal on?
The 78-79 has a different pedal hole location. So it will bolt in but the pedal will be low you probably could redrill the hole to put the height of pedal to your fancy.you will need proportion valve.Master cylinder for disc/drum brake
I am guessing that the donor truck has dual piston calipers. That being the case, all you really need from the donor truck to do the swap are the anchor brackets (the round brackets with the two 'ears' that the caliper mounts to) and the dust shields. Everything else is available aftermarket. And get the bracket for the proportioning valve. Some folks say you need to get the brackets for the brake lines that bolt to the frame, but when I did my 69 F250, I just used the originals and had no problem.
I would recommend getting new or rebuilt calipers made for your 71, as the 73-79 calipers are different internally and use different sized brake hoses and bleeder valves. That way it will be much easier for you and any possible future owner to know what replacement parts to buy. The bushings in the ears of the calipers will be different than what would have been used in 71, but 71 calipers will bolt up just fine.
