Hey guys,
I have my 79 F150 4X4 auto w/ tilt column, but my column broke. Dad threw the column out when we moved (GRRRRR.....), so I'm looking for some help.
I found a tilt for a 2wd, but don't know if they are the same as 4wd. Columnsgalore.com said the 2wd one would bolt right up.
Can I get a few more opinions before I go blow a few hundred bucks?
Thanks!
Hi, all 78-79 truck and bronco tilt columns are the same. 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. I have worked with these columns quite a bit. If you need any advice or parts send me an email. mitchod@shaw.ca

Thanks Mitch. So i found one with for a 2wd for 200 bucks, the guys said it works perfect. It's the cheapest one I've found, but do you think I could find one cheaper?
I dont know what they go for down there but I find them in pick n pull yards up here for $40 . I see them on ebay for less than $200 but shipping can be a few bucks. If you are looking at one check the shift collar pin. They wear out and get sloppy. Check the lower bearing its in a plastic body and if bad they are difficult to find. Also check the tilt function for slop in the bearings and the pivot pins. If the pins are slopped out you have to change the main body if the bearings are loose or noisy they can be replaced. also check the signal light cancel function it is comon to find them broken. Make sure to get the dash trim with the tilt column as it is differnt than the regular one. Good luck.
