Secondly It was in perfect shape when i bought it 4 years ago with almost 100k less miles on it. I gave $300 i believe for it.
Bill at PHP (Gryphon) can set you up. He did for me. I had an edge evolution, and he traded me a gryphon and put custom tunes on it so my 4.6l ecm could run my 5.4l.
The truck ran for a year with the 4.6l stock ecm on the 5.4l with out one code or issue.
Your truck will run just fine without any tuning at all. NO CODES!! as long as you install everything correctly. If you want more power buy a hand held tunner and put the truck on a dyno.
Sorry about the smoker comment, nothing negative was meant by it. From the valuable information you have posted, it sounds like this should work out fine . I will start looking for a local 03' used engine with low miles on it, that may be a chore. I did have a Superduty pass me yestureday and all I could see was blue, not a diesel either, that thing was toast, nice truck though.
The 3 valve is a different engine, much much much much more work.
It wasnt half way, they started 04 with the 3v 5.4l engine. They did however offer some Heritage F-150 that were basically left over parts from the 97-03 style with 5.4l 2v. Hence they show both engine those years.
I don't know where your located or if you buy off ebay. But hers is a sweet motor for ya.
03 with only 37000 miles on it!
If I had the extra money laying around,,,I would ****** this up.
I have contacted the seller! It makes me sweat and get nervous buying from distant NY? lol. Hope it's a legit company, I'll check them out?
Strongly considering it. We'll see how the answers to my questions come back? I've been checking engines all over the place. Thanks for the great continued advice!

Thanks for the info.......you don't happen to work for them, do ya...lol.
No...lol
I live in Delaware and there in New York.
I went on ebay because a lot of the guys on there will list all the different trucks the motor will fit.
Basically I was looking for other vehicles with the same 5.4 that your looking for.
Wile looking for that I came across that motor and it looked really good ,with LOW miles. So I figured I'd let you know about it.
After looking at several motors on ebay, I've noticed several different intake configurations in the 00' - 04' 2v 5.4's. Some Expeditions and Excursions have a weird aluminum intake unlike the aluminum intakes of other early 2000's F150s?
The 03' ebay engine in Phills post has a composite intake that I'm not sure would work with my 98's air filter and connecting OE flex hose and MAF sensor. Would I have to get an 03' air filter and MAF assembly as well to make it work?

The throttle body on the 03 composite intake is in the same location as it is on a 99 aluminum intake.
So your stock air intake will fit the same.
Some of the Expeditions have the throttle body pointing to the other side of the truck. So the intake would be a little different.

Have they had any sealing issues with the composite intakes compared to the aluminum's a year or two earlier, thought there was a TSB on that, and would it be wise to replace those gaskets before installing? And my MAF sensor will work to?
Thanks, hope I'm not asking too many questions???
The early composite had some small problems with cracking and also with the piece on the front of the intake(the cross over) going bad and leaking.
In 03 they went with an upgraded composite intake that was better made and was supposed to fix thous problems.
If you get one with over 100,000 miles on it,it might not be a bad idea to replace the intake manifold gaskets.
But I wouldn't worry about them with less miles.

Yes your MAF will work.
So then the 03' or maybe the last year they used aluminum intakes will be the ticket! More valuable information!
Thanks
