Gauge Problems

Well, I just got a set of 3 gauges and the pillar pod from glowshift off amazon and installed them myself. I wired all the gauges together and ran the appropriate wires to their places. 12v Power wire is to the battery terminal (had a wire already there). The switched 12v is to the key on. Ground goes to the ground for my alarm. The 12v switched (for dimming) is on the brown wire for the headlights/running lights. There is a 3 amp fuse sitting on the 12v power line (as said in the install instructions).

That being said. I was driving down the road yesterday and the back light for the gauges cut off. So instead of it being illuminated its now dark except for the light for the needle. So its still getting power and they work, they just arent illuminated.

Anyone have this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it?

... Kinda wish I would have gone with Clay's Autometers. It is what it is

Check your ground or run a new one, double check your connections.

The ground is good, its the same one for my alarm. Checked the connections with a tester and they are all clean...

You say the illumination is off the brown wire? I always use the blue with red trace. Are you sure it should be on the brown wire?

The instructions said its the brown wire... If thats the problem then i wonder if it shorted out the illumination bulbs and the needle bulb is a higher amp bulb and wasnt affected. Now the problem is what to do about it. I wired it identical to the install instructions so ill have to see if i can get glow shift to send me new gauges. It might be a long shot but they were in for maybe 3hrs max and popped. Might have to get the laywer to send them a letter and see if thatll convince them.

If you ran the gauges to the dimmer switch that might be your problem. Glowshift gauges can't be wired to the dimmer or they don't function properly.

X2 ^^ you are supposed to wire the lights to the switched power.

Nope, it says that in the install instructions as well.

OK, well the brown wire is the 12V power to the dimmer and the blue/red trace is the dimmer, so you should be good.

Have you pulled a gauge to make sure you are getting power to the gauge for lights? I have not installed GlowShift Gauges, so a little unsure of how they actually work for illumination.

They work off of the 12v switch that i ran to the key on/off. The constant 12v is for the color select memory. The dimming feature is activated when the other 12v switch recieves power, which in my case would be when i turn on either the running lights or headlights.

I just spoke with a tech rep and he was quite nice. (If anyone is calling in to glowshift call the main number and dial ext. 122, the guys name is Justin.) Anyways, justin helped me out and I just mailed the gauges, no wiring, back in. If the gauges are good they are gunna send them back. If they are defective then theyll ship the new ones out.

If anyone has done any kind of illuminated switch (simple on off) for their gauges id be interested in how you did the wiring.

Thanks.

I just put an in line 3amp fuse in. If the fuses popped from the dimmer or the key on/off then the dimmer wouldnt work and the truck wouldnt start. The fuses are good. We'll see what happens when they check them.
