My friend and I are working on his 94 F150 2wd w/ a 300 I6 and E4OD trans....
the trans grenaded and case is cracked
so we're looking at the cheapest route to getting it back on the road which is to get a used trans from either a u-pick it yard or craigslist.....or salvage yard
what other years and engine size e4od transmissions will interchange?? I thought it was like 92-95 300/302 but want to be sure as i have no idea and neither does he.....
You can use a 1989-1997 E4OD from an I6 or 302/351. The later transmissions, your '94 and later, are the most desirable. The transmission will have to be from a 2 wheel drive vehicle, F-series/van. If you use a 1995 or later transmission you will need to re-use the old solenoid pack.
, ok thanks alot. So basicly another 94 trans for the best reliability and bolt in.....but 95+ will be a good one i just gottaa swap in the solenoid pack out the 94 trans.....i thought the 351 used a different bellhouse bolt pattern???
Thanks for help Man. Ripped out a e4od from a 300 powered 93 F150 with 84k miles, said on window it ran and drove. Got it with a newer looking converter for $110
Maybe. Need to know more about both vehicles before a definitive answer can be given. Bellhousings need to match. Crossmembers need to match. Computer needs to be compatible.
A wiring change happened sometime around 1995 where a function handled by the transmission before is now handled by the ECM. Grab the computer out of the donor if the motors are the same between the donor and the recipient.
Edit: Jdavey53 has posted in another thread stating that the donor has a 5.4L, and his F250 has a 460. The bellhousings are different for the two engines, and don't interchange. I'm also not sure that the 5.4 was ever mated to the E4OD.
I just bought this project from my brother in law. It's like a 91 ford ranger lifted 6" with a 5.0l v8 out of an 89 mustang fox body, with a E4OD transmission he says is out of an 90 or 91 f150 that had a 351 w... there is a wire harness hanging down from over top of the transmission with 2 or 3 little plastic plugs and then a group of wires that are cut.. TOTALING 19 WIRES... he said the tranny needs a control module for all those wires to connect to n that's it.. but after doing research I'm pretty sure he is wrong and those 19 wires are supposed to not be cut where they are and
supposed to continue along the frame rail ALL THE WAY UP INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT??.. and I think I need the ECM OR THE PCM to connect them to .. cuz I believe it is the PCM that controls the transmission?? The shift points and the tranny pressure?? Idk I'm trying to figure this out.. if anyone can help.. please do

Correct. An E4OD is completely computer controlled by the pcm. It gets inputs from multiple sensors including the engine and speed sensor. IMO, you’d be better off with and AOD or C4
