What are some pros and cons for each and what do you prefer on your truck

On a truck I prefer the column shifter. It's up and out of the way and I can seat a third person up front if needed.

now I do like the bucket seats, but I really like the option of being able to carry one more passenger. I have kids so the extra space would help.

If I end up with a 150, I'll get the flow through console and buckets. When I ordered my 250, the dealer screwed it up. It was supposed to have the captain's chairs with the center console and they ordered it with the bench. Everything else on the truck was correct so I took it. Not that it's been bad, but I like the extra storage of the center console over the armrest in the 40/20/40. I also like that you get the inverter with it in the Lariat, which is the model I'm looking at.

Having had both types of setups, I like the floor shifter with the flow through much better. It helps to cool off the rear passengers.

But I don't need the extra space either.

Since when I replace my car with a f150, I will be going with captain chairs and center console and console shift. To make this truck as much like a car is the best of both worlds!!
Quiet, confortable like a car, haul like a truck!!!!

I'm getting xlt with column shift. That's the only way it comes in xlt.
There are flow through vents under the seats and I assume they serve the same function as the flow through vents in the console.

This is the first F150 With the console shifter, and I actually like it. I don't really have a preference one way or the other I guess.

I absolutely love the console shifter. Especially when selecting gears it is more comfortable. I am not the "set it and forget it" type, particularly while towing. I use the space in the console, all of it. I really dislike the 2011 40/20/40 split bench with the headrest in the 20 portion. I rarely even have passengers in the back seat, let alone have the need for more than one up front (another reason I only buy supercabs)

I prefer a floor shifter as a place to rest my right hand, but I must say the column shifter in the F-150 XLT is very precise to operate. However if I get a newer model (2011 up) with selectable gears, I'll get the floor shift to play with.........might be fun.

I'm going to order a 2011 FX4 extended cab in a few months. I think that I would perfer this column shifter as when I was a kid (Way back in the 1990s) all trucks had column shifters so naturally its what I remember from my child hood. I perfer it because for one you can genrally seat one extra person and two it just feels more truckish to me.

But honeslty the more I think about it, the Console shifter has its benefits as well. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter to me. I know my FX4 will come standered with a console shifter, It'll just take a little getting use to is all. Maybe it won't be a hard transition since my Ranger I'm traiding in is a 5-speed stick shift.

Column shifter. If they go to 100% console shifter, I'll have to find a new truck. The equipment console in the center makes a console shifter a no-go.

I like the column shifter in the truck. Drove a Lariat with the floor shifter, but I like the nostalgic feel of the column in my XLT. I don't think it's necessary to have a trade off with comfort or rear air vents. The Ram has rear air vents with the 6 seat config.

I came from a column shift in the Explorer to the console shift in the F150. I agree with FoMoFun with having a rest for my right hand. I also enjoy the larger console storage as compared to the offering in the bench flip down.

I like the console shift but I also like the looks of the center console/ seats too. The only thing I don't like about the CC is the closed in feeling you get. As big as this truck is the drivers area is really cramped with the floor console and shifter. It seems every year this truck gets tighter and tighter up front.
I think they could steal a bit of room from the back pushing the front seats back and making the dash a bit smaller. Thin down the door panels and CC a bit and it would be perfect.

I don't like the 40/20/40 setup with the bigger fold down rest either.

That's a tough call to make.
