I actually just started researching that. I think I'm going to O'reilly later today and getting a knew one. Is the stock thermostat is 192 or 195?

EGT's are 800-900* at 60-70 mph. I have no idea if that's high or not. My 6.0 used to run 700* or less at that speed.

He mentions 180* as hot and that is normal for all intense purposes. That is why I ask for clarification.
No pune intended, makes sense.
What were you doing to make the temps go up? Were you pulling a heavy load? What tune did you have your programmer in at the time? Gauges are a real must when running aftermarket tunes.

My EGTs are around 600* I have to think your high, if your running empty with 3:73 gears, 1100* is where you should back out of it empty to be EXTRA safe

I was in what they call the mileage tune, which is the first of 5 tunes. It was bone empty on the road back to colorado(where I lived at the time) from Texas. It was a fairly flat area with a few minor hills here and there, by no means terrain to test the limits of the truck.

The edge lets me watch up to 8 different parameters, but i've gotten to where I don't really trust it.

That's what I thought as well. I only saw 1100* once, and I was racing a ricer. I was puckered up tight while i did it too. I didn't like pushing my baby that hard, so i won't ever be doin that again.

I won, by the way.

If you were driving normal theres something going on here, what was the outside air temp.? Do you have a factory trans. temp?, I dont, if you do does is coexsist with what programmer you have said as far as temp?

I feel like that's something you only do once before you start pushing your luck.

So, here's the list of things to do next weekend:

Radiator flush and fill with ELC
Clean the outside of the radiator
Install new thermostat
-What's the 203* thermostat purpose?
Run the heck out of it and hope the problem is fixed.

I think this is a good start, no?

I do have a factory trans temp, and the edge just reads what the OBDII port tells it. I can't quite remember the outside air temp, but it wasn't over 80*. it was march in colorado, it just doesn't get that hot there.

1100 isn't high at all. Aluminum melts around 1220F, so it'll run at 1100 all day long. I've buried my 1600 deg gauge many, many times. Just don't keep it there more than 20-30 seconds.....

Thats a good starting point. When International designed these engines whey were designed to have a 203* thermostat in them for some reason Ford decided not to put them in it. You cannot go down to Orilleys and buy a thermostat for these trucks they wont work, Im unclear 100% as to why because i dont rember, if you do a search in the thread youll find all the info youll need to change your thermostat. When I change a thermostat on anything I alwas have the wife boil a pot of water and drop the old thermostat into it to see if it opens in boiling water, and if it does that proably wasnt the problem but I change it anyways and put the old one in the glove box just incase I get stranded because of a thermostat.

That is extremely helpful info to know as I was just about to go get one. Do you know where to get one before next weekend?

At 60* outside and 60mph on the hwy my EGTs are just under 600* and trans. temp are roughly 120*
