I am needing to get a new exhaust system for my 65 F100 with a 352, 4 speed. I am wanting to put on dual exhaust. Question 1: Has anyone installed dual exhaust on their pickup from somewhere like Midas? Expected cost? Question 2: I was looking at LMC and they have a system that I could buy and install myself, but it says it is for a automatic transmission configuration. Has anyone bought this system from them and successfully installed it on a manual transmission setup?

Any good muffler shop can do the job. When I had mine done, I asked the same question about the LMC automatic transmission setup.
The tech said this: "The exhaust system for a manual transmission would be different because the pipe would have to be lower on the drivers side to clear the clutch linkage."
Not sure if this is correct, but it does appear to make some sense and it really did not matter by that time. I realize this does not exactly answer your question, but I thought I would pass on this info.
The price will vary depending on your choice of mufflers. Some of them are pretty pricey. It will also depend on whether you're running the pipes out the back or stopping in front of the rear wheel. I had a recent quote for my 66 shortbed 352 automatic for $440 using 2.5" pipe out the back and Dynomax mufflers. I already have dual exhausts but I was pricing an upgrage. Hope that helps a little.

Yeah same deal, I had a quote of header back dual exhaust with 2.5 in and Flowmasters, for $400 I have a 352 with a 4 speed, I am putting in the Sanderson Shorty headers, as they avoid any issues with the starter, clutch linkage, or transmission Cross member. The Sanderson cost $425 plus shipping! So for under $900 all issues are handled, and I don't have to do the labor.
do your homework and shop around. Meineke quoted me $600 to put 2.5" duals with turbo mufflers on my truck. I shopped around and found an independent shop that did it for $300 and did an excellent job (probably much better than Meineke would have done). They made sure nothing interfered with my underbed spare. If you post your location, a member near you may be able to give you a recommendation on a shop.
Thanks for all the information. You guys have been a great help. Next thing to figure out is what muffler to get for the sound I am hoping for. BTW, I am in the Denver, Colorado area.

Flowmaster has 5 or 6 stages of loud for you to choose from! Of course you also want to add into the equation what you are looking for Torque for low end or top end Horsepower. if you are at teh track a lot go for the horsepower, but for an everyday driver go for torque.. meaning more restriction and less noise. If you have a smaller displacement, keep your pipes at 2' or so, if you have a big block, or plan on racing a lot then you can step up the pipe diameter.
There really is a huge amount of choice. One guy suggested to me a cheap way to get a dual exhaust was just to have a local exhaust shop make a system bolting up to the factory "log style" manifolds. I got a price quote of @ $450 to do that with an H pipe, Dynamax turbo mufflers, running the pipes to the back bumper with turndowns. The FE engine forum guys generally think that the factory log manifolds are lousy and recommend headers to free up the breathing a lot more. There are many choices of headers in many price ranges. Bill W told me about some Hookers (P/N 6903) at our local speed shop that sold for about $240. I also have the 352 w/4speed and the Hookers clear both the clutch linkage and the Ford (as opposed to Bendix) power steering box very nicely. I admit the easy installation was aided by not having the inner fender panel, clutch linkage, or p/s box installed when I hung the header. Haven't gotten a new estimate for the rest of the system yet. Hope this helps.

Yeah good thing you opted for the headers, I have had the logs, with the dual exhaust with H pipe, attached to the logs.. I was forever chasing leaks around the logs. No Bueno!
Remember you get what you pay for. There was a post in the exhaust forum where someone posted a link to a guy who had his exhaust done by some shop. Their muffler hangers were simple chain link chain. You need to be very specific about what you want otherwise you could end up being surprised like that fellow. Chain shops I avoid like the plague.
Where I am there is an independent called Mel's Muffler. All one has to do is drive by and you'll see all the 60's and 70's cars people bring by for work. They have a mandrel bending machine so your pipes look factory/professional. They have done two of my vehicles so far, the F100 and the Park Lane. They will be doing my Polara in two weeks going from single to dual and we will discuss the setup I want. I am supplying NOS muffler hangers for the job. In May or June they will be doing the Cougar and I will be providing him with the mufflers since he doesn't carry Hooker Aerochambers as Flowmasters are not allowed near my car. Cost wise, if they supply stock mufflers like the F100 and Park Lane, the cost was $400 and $500.
Be sure on your choice of muffler too...I'm only running single at the moment, but had put a
glass pack on for a spell...I got tired of the noise about two days later when feeling guilty
leaving the house at 5am...I opted for a very quiet one later.
If you don't already know, find out where the hotrodders hang out on Friday or Saturday night and go there and ask them for a good muffler shop that's not afraid to do custom work.
In a metro area of that size, there has to be 2 or 3.
A lot of the name brand muffler shops simply won't do anything out of the ordinary.
My f250 has a 2-1/2" inlet to an unknown type of muffler and exits a 2". i love the sound of it but it isnt quite loud enough. i have stock manifolds and i was wondering if anyone has gone just straight pipe? i dont want it to sound groggy or splatty but i want a deep agressive tone for as little as possible. what are some good muffler choices for this application. forgot to mention i have a 352. thanks
Your set up sounds like my old set up just pop in a pair of Cherry Bombs aka Glass packs in place of the Mufflers or muffler. A little bit less back pressure, a little more rumble, and cheap too! I had Dual exhaust with manifolds and a pair of glass packs it sounded mean! and all in all wasn't a bad set up, but I am opting for the headers now, with a new system, I will probably stick with Glass packs though. I just finished building my engine a few months ago, and so now I want the exhaust on par with the engine build. You can pick up a glass pack at your local performance shop, or auto parts for as low as $30 bucks, and it is an easy swap!
