Thanks...I have a reman set I bought 6 or 7 months ago from a guy who ordered the wrong ones...and he said it was to much hassle to send them back...whatever I said...but I get 'em for $90 bucks...still in the box...
I guess I should have worded my question like this...I was wondering if I just swapped out the knocker...and saved the rest in case I develop another knocker in the future...About twice a year I fill my filter with Diesel Clean and let my injectors soak a couple of days as well as go with 4 times the amount of diesel clean called for in the tank once a year...My mileage is always good and the engine has always run good except for this first injector knock...
Change them all and keep the good used ones around, that way you will never need them. Doing a whole set took me about an hour. Just switching one new into 7 used can cause a miss at idle because the new injector isnt lazy and popping early. You would be best to change all 8 and set the timing to 8 new injectors instead of finding a balance between the mixed bag. just my pair-o-pennies
Thanks...that makes sense...maybe I'll do that and soak the old ones for a while in Diesel Kleen and have 'em tested...and if I ever do need a replacement for who knows what on the road I'll have one 'eh...
Another thought/question? Could I have my old ones rebuilt by someone and sent back to me, or is that not cost efficient?
A diesel shop in your area would probably be happy to do that for you and you get to talk to them face to face and they should be able to build them any way you want.

What do you mean...build them any way I want? For performance or something like that...or just longer lasting parts?
Not sure what you mean...I thought they were all the same for these engines, however I have read where codes a, bb, etc...were mentioned, but I never understood what that meant tho...I just thought the letters for were what year they were made...
Like different pop off pressures if you ever want to turbo they should be able to do anything from good mileage to coal rolling ones that dump fuel by the bucket. The codes are for the specs of the injector, flow, pop press, nozzle size and pattern and the like. For example high altitudes would have different specs then would regular na's and the same with the turbo ones.
Ok thanks for the info...After we leave Washington this time we are going to stay mostly in the flatlands of the South for the most part...I doubt we will ever get above 6000 ft. again once we leave here...
I was also wondering about that injector info cuz I am rebuilding another 6.9L for a banks turbo...to be done by Eric's RV Performance in Sequim, WA...He has been doing this for many years and is well known for it in many circles...
My diesel shop took my injectors from my 401 in my tractor and they hogged out the body and used a laser to burn the holes in the nozzles from .014" to .022". And yes we are putting some dead dinosaur bones in the air!
