I broke the back window on my 2003 F-250 today. It is the piece behind the driver. Does anyone know how to replace this, and an estimated cost. CIs the DIYable?
I have an 84 F250 that I took out the single window and replaced it with a sliding window. I can't imagine that things have changed that much in replacing a window unless it has metal trim on the outside. It helps to have some one on the outside to catch the window when you take it out and to push on the new one when you put it in. If there is a plastic trim empbeded in the rubber gasket on the outside, take it out first. Take off the inside trim to get to the rubber gasket. Then just start inside at a corner and pull the rubber back and to the center of the window while maintaining some pressure pushing out on the window and work your way around. A small screw driver might help to start out. Once you get half way around it should come out easily.
Clean the gasket and put it around the new window. Then lay a 1/4 diameter inch rope in the part of the gasket that the cab will set in. Make sure this overlaps itself. Then from the bed of the truck set the window with the gasket and rope on the bottom opening of the cab and have someone push on the window while you go inside and they should push on the frame working around with you while you pull the rope inside like a zip line. The rope serves to pull the gasket in and over the cab lip. It wouldn't hurt to wipe the gasket down with armorall or a soapy solution to slide on the cab as you pull the rope. Replace your trim and you are done. It really is not that hard. It may take a try or two but you can do it.
