I have had my mine set on a chip ever since my OBS truck that i had. I recently picked up a 01 at the end of October with 187,??? on it that apprently had a bad motor so i got it real cheap. Did the work Myself and have since almost put 10,000 miles since. Dont ask were i went bc i cant tell ya haha. I am dead set on getting a php fu chip but am parenoid about smokin my trans. I also am aware that it could last if im responsible with it. Currently in the last couple months the trans runs about 110 around home and 110-120 on the expressway (75mph). Should i spend the money on the 6637 kit through clay or get a transgo tugger kit? I already have guages, zoodad mod (noticed a big difference), exhaust, mods. im just tore between the filter or shift kit.
IMO, I would go with the shift kit, If you pull a lot and are scared of heat for your trans put a 6.0 trans cooler in it. Try not to exceed 100* ambient air temp., and you should be ok. With the 6637 you can buy the filter and get a piece of 4'' conduit like I did and be done with it
I don't do any towing but will if I have to do you think that if I only use the 120 or 140 for a race the trans will hold up if im careful what is a good price on a tugger kit and how hard is it to put in
$237.50 I believe is how much a John Wood valve body is. I have both of those tunes for 6 month and so sign of any problems yet. All I use those for is to race. The 6637 is cheap compaired to the tugger kit. I dont have a shift kit and mine seems to be holding up fine, shifts a little sloppy when Im getting on it. I dont know how hard it is to put in though, Im no help with that sorry.
You can make your own Tymar intake for cheap, you can use a piece of PVC with an outside diameter of 4'' about 4-6'' long, get the filter and youll need to get one 4'' band clamp and your intake is done. youll also have to cut up your factory air box to make it work and if you want to make a cold air box you can do this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-6637-cai.html I just got done making mine it cost about $30. I still have to paint it and install it.
I dont know what your budget is but you can do the Tymar for around $65 give or take
You can do the CAI box for around $30.
I dont know the exact numbers on the shift kit, maybe someone else will chime in on it, if you dont do any pulling then do the 6637 and box, some say it doesnt make a difference just like the zoodad doesnt do anything either, its all personal opinion, but its one more thing you can say youve done.
ok well i think im gunna go with the intake and add the tugger later in the summer i have already started a cai for the 6637 for a metal shop project. My teacher wants it done so she can take it to a state competion so it should be done at the end of the week hopfully
I will post pics when done if i can get it to work and what do you guys think about painting it with some high temp paint or some kind of ceramic coating to keep the heat out?
Paint it but dont waste your time with any high temp. paint its not gonna do you any good. Save your money and get a piece of rubber to put across the top of the box to seal it to the hood
ok will do im thinking about black with a red cover on the filter. Any opinions and for rubber would some flexable hose with a cut in the center and slide in on the top edge

Im gonna paint mine black and I already have a black cover from Clay. That should do the trick, make sure its thick enough to hold up for a long time but thin enough to flex. I still havent gotten my box painted... Its on the back burner, but I did pain the turbo housing today and Ill finish it tomorrow
