I've only wanted an F-150 since I was a little girl and realized how truly awesome my dad's was. He always had one and I cherished every ride and the few precious times I got to drive it.
I could shout from the rooftops! I LOVE IT!! I think I'll have to do something about the exhaust. I like to hear it !!

I was excited to be behind a V8 but when I called a place yesterday abotu some parts the desk clerk (a man) asked me what size of engine and I said 4.6 and he's like "Okay, it is a little one" Kiss this, buddy. But it is the 4.6L 3 cylinder V8 4x4.
I've been reading this threads and heard some stuff about not messing with the exhaust system - I've looked underneath and the muffler looks very basic (I would never do it myself) but I was hoping to do some upgrading to something with some more sound. Right now it is silent as can be. It doesn't match the look of the truck. Why does everyone recommend not touching the muffler? And how does some folks' factory installed system have some noise and mine doesn't?
There are several companies that make aftermarket exhaust systems for your truck, but all it will mostly do is make for a louder exhaust note and not do much for more power. I take it you have the 4.6 3 valve V8. It's a good engine and it will sound real sweet with the right cat back exhaust ( from the muffler on back to the tail pipes).

Yes, 3 valve. I'm still learning the technical jargon ;-)
But thanks for that info, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I did some research on youtube to listen to some and actually the cat back was the one I liked the sound of. (I don't want it for power, I want it for noise. lol. I know that is probably ignorant but I want my neighbors to know I'm home ;-) I'm not exactly a speed racer.) I really appreciate the feedback!
Welcome, and congrads! IIRC the 4.6 has 290'ish hp and the 5.4 has 310. Not a whole lot of difference. My buddy has a S/C with the 4.6 and 3.73's and it runs quite well. He got the 2 chamber Flowmaster cat-back on it and it sounds very nice. I have a 2 chamber Flowmaster but I haven't installed it yet, haven't decided where I want it to exit. Thinking about in front of the rear tire, its a single-in dual out. I just don't want it to be too loud, lol!
