Ford ranger 2500 XLT

Hi all... I have a problem that i cant get solved... i parked my ford outside the restuarant got back in after about 2 hours and it would not start up again... i noticed that the glow plug light was not showing on the cluster so i shorted the diesel pump relay to get it running again... ive checked the fuses and the glow plug relay and they are all working...where would i find the glow plug timer???or what controlles the glow plugs time they stay on for??? and where would i find the power for the diezel pump relay???would that come directly from the ignition???
