1986 ford ranger diesel glow plug relay
hey all problem is when i turn key on im getting a 12v reading on the power side of relay but the quikstart glow plug side is not getting power i went threw and my glow plugs r bad all of them but shouldnt i still be getting power on that side no matter if they work or not i just replaced the glow plug relay didnt help

Well, i have the engine control wiring diagrams for an 87 diesel & it shows 2 glow plug elays.
Theres "pre glow relay 1" & "After glow relay 2"
Both relays are controlled by the "diesel control module."
Relay 1 gets voltage all the time (key on or off) on the solid red wire
Relay 2 gets voltage all the time (key on or off) on black yellow wire.
Turn the key to start shove the clutch in & the diesel control module sends voltage to the coil side of both relays. The relays close & NOW you should see voltage from the relays on solid brown (relay 1) & orange/green stripe (relay 2)..
Not sure how you're supposed to pre heat the glow plugs with this setup. But thats what the diagrams show. Go figure.
