Outer axle shaft q's on D44 IFS

First let me go with saying I know the benefits of doing an SAS. I am turning my 2wd truck into a 4wd and I got all of my parts from a donor with a blown engine. My truck is not going to do any hard core off roading, I just want to be able to go get firewood and not get stuck.

When I disassembled the front end the driver side seemed fine, but when I disassembled the pass side, I found that the axle shaft was loose in the hub. The retaining clip that goes in the slot in the splines had been bent and was not secure in place. Here is a pic of the damage:

Is this salvageable or should i get a new outer axle shaft?

There are marks around where the inner bearing goes (from being loose) and I was thinking that maybe the groove in the splines was worn enough for the snap ring to not stay put.

I just don't want to have to pull this apart again in the near future, if you guys think it looks ok, I will slap her back together again.

Thanks for the input.

Put new spindle bearings in it, run some emery cloth over the shaft where the bearing rides so there r no sharp edges, and put it back together with a ample supply of grease.

I don't run any clips and have no problems. As was mentioned earlier, make sure your spindle bearings are good, debur the axle, put some good waterproof grease in, and put it back together.

no snap ring on the stub axle Karl?

thats what helps hold the seal against the back of the spindle.

I've never been able to get the snap rings on with the Yukon shafts and Warn hubs. No issues, but then again I pull my front apart almost every weekend after playing in the mud to clean and re-grease. It was the same on my F150 and all was good.

It makse for swapping out axle shafts real nice too at the race. I can pull a side down, swap in a new shaft and have the truck back on 4 wheels in less than 10 minutes. Thinking about doing some more SC mods and make it so I can swap a motor out in less than 10 minutes as well. (ask Kris, he'll explain...)

Edit: Aww crap! I jsut realized the OP was asking about a TTB d44. I'm talking about a solid D44. Never mind......
